Seminars and Webinars

Health Click runs seminars and webinars on sexuality and health education for anyone educating young people and adults with a developmental disability.

Presenter Annette Milligan has worked with parents, carers, therapists and special needs teachers for many years to help them overcome the challenges they can face in this area.

Annette is a trained teacher and registered nurse who runs a medical clinic in Nelson (including a sexual assault service) and a clinical director of Nelson Marlborough District Health Board.

Annette says: “Health Click seminars and webinars are an opportunity for me to share my many years experience teaching health and sexuality to people with a developmental disability. I explain why this teaching is so important, provide advice on key topics, and signposts for further support and advice. There is also an opportunity to ask questions. Many people struggling with these challenges feel they are alone, but they are not. There are some common approaches, tips and techniques that can make life so much easier.”

The seminars and webinars can be tailored to particular audiences, but in general they last 1.5 hours and cover:

* Barriers to sexuality education
* Reasons for vulnerability
* How to take the lead and tackle those difficult conversations
* Using the right words
* Helping children and adults identify / disclose abuse
* Managing inappropriate behaviour
* Masturbation
* Intimate care

Health Click has held seminars all over New Zealand and Australia. A webinar can be requested from anywhere in the world.
